Atari 5200

Introduced in November 1982 to lackluster sales.  It was a direct competitor with the ColecoVision, but was taken off the market with the announcement of the Atari 7800 after only 2 years, with the announcement of the Atari 7800. *3 Even with its poor sales performance it still likely sold over 1 million systems. *4

Atari 7800

The 7800 system was introduced in May of 1986.*5  The 7800 unlike the 5200 was able to play the older Atari 2600 games which had been released in the late 70s and early 80s. This made it a much more attractive offering for people who already owned a library of games from the older system. *6   Production of the 7800 was stopped in January of 1992 with overall decent sales despite competing directly with the NES which dominated nearly 80% of the home console market at the time. *7

Atari XEGS

The XEGS would be the last console that Atari would release with its initial release being in November of 1987. The XEGS was essentially a home computer and with the addition of certain add-on items could function as one.*8 The XEGS was sold at the same time as the 7800 and the 2600 Jr(a repackaged 5200 capable of playing 2600 games) and was even featured in ads together.*9  Total Sales figures are unclear but its initial launch production run in 1987 was sold out by Christmas of that year.*10
