PlayStation

The PlayStation or PS1/PSX was released in North America on September 9th 1995.*30  The PS1 saw great sales from the beginning and earned it a second place standing against Nintendo of the same era and handily beat the Sega Saturn.  Over its lifetime the PS1 sold more than 104 million units.*31

PlayStation 2

The PlayStation 2(PS2) was launched in North America on  November 24th, 2000.  The PlayStation 2 is the all time best selling console in history.  With Sales of over 157 million units.  Production of the PS2 did not fully cease until January of 2013.*32,33

PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3(PS3) was launched in North America on November 17th, 2006.*34  By November of 2013 global sales of the PS3 had reached upwards of 80 million systems.*35 In October of 2013 the manufacture of the PS3 was officially discontinued.*36

PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 4(PS4) was launched in North America on November 15th, 2013.*37  It is currently Sony’s flagship gaming system with sales as of May, 2016 over 40 million units.*38  In June of 2016 the “Neo” was announced, an upgraded version of the PS4, with no definite release date.*39
